Suit Colors

Choosing a suit color is arguably the most exciting part of picking out a suit. But like anything in life, there are times to go big, and there are times to tone it down a little. Most of the time, your suit color will set the stage for your accessories.

Speaking of those accessories, below each suit color category we added our favorite accessories recommendations for those suits t make things a little easier for you. Get inspired, and create your own look.

  • GREY SUIT COLORS

- Medium grey is the most versatile suit color our there and you can dress it up or down with the right accessories. This makes it a great choice if you are looking to buy your fist suit for a wedding or event where the dress code is not obvious.

- Light grey is a casual suit color, which makes it an especially good choice for spring or summer, and for any daytime events. This shade has that breezy, approachable feel we all love so much.

- Charcoal or dark grey suits tend to give off a more formal vibe, and they work best in the fall or winter season, or pretty much any time you want to be taken seriously.

How to Wear It

Grey suits can really handle whatever color you throw at them, so try working some shades into your outfit that you might usually shy away from. Both black and brow shoes work here, too.

  • BLUE SUIT COLORS

- Brighter blues won't blend into the crowd like most of the other suit colors, but they are not too risky or bold either. They really have the perfect balance for most situations. This is a suit that can easily transform from daytime to evening.

- Navy, the darkest and most formal shade of blue, is another excellent candidate for a first suit you should but, and it is also the safest bet for any event. A navy suit can give off a professional feel, but a calculated casual look is easy to achieve with the right shirt, tie, and shoes.

Rich earthy tones do a nice job of warming up the blues. You can also stick to blue steel with grey silver accessories. Also, try adding a vest for a more formal look.

  • BLACK SUITS

You might have noticed that so far, the darker the suit the more formal it is. So it shouldn't come as a surprise to you that a black suit is the most formal suit color. It is after all only a few satin details away from a full blown tuxedo.

While wearing a black suit can be an iconic look (I mean, just think of the Tarantino films, Johnny Cash, etc.), it can also come off as stoic or harsh if you are not careful. See below how you can avoid the harsh look.

How to Wear It

Don't let a black suit limit your outfit's color palette. Opt for colors like light pink and blue, olive green or even medium navy. Gold cufflinks or a gold tie clip are really a pop against a  black suit and will transform it into a "bad-ass" vibe.

  • TAN SUITS

The Kind of casual suit colors - The Tan Suit. This may be the official getup of summer, but don't be afraid to bust it out in the spring, either. It is a great neutral shade and the perfect blank canvas for bright-colored shirts and patterned accessories.

How to Wear It

If you are thinking of dressing up, the high contrast of a black linen necktie pops nicely off a tan backdrop. But spring and summer suits are meant for color, so lean into the season.

  • BOLD SUIT COLORS & PATTERNS

The suit color options above should have you covered for the majority of causal events, but what about the occasional holiday party or fashion-forward event? Sometimes you need to get more visual mileage from your suit, but do bold colors and unique patterns belong on suits and tuxedos? That is a "heck" to the "yes", They most definitely do. Here are two of our favorite head-turners.

How to Wear It

If you are going big with your suit, it is usually best to pull back a little on the colors or patterns of your accessories. That does not mean boring since you can still do a lot with black and white. Just try not to double down on a pattern, but still have fun with your shoes.
