FIVE MOMENTS WE WON’T FORGET FROM PARIS MEN’S FASHION WEEK

Though fashion week is technically not a competition, it might often times be seen as one. What each designer does to stand out against the “competition” sets the tone for the upcoming season, and the things that happen at fashion week, planned or not, are sometimes even more exciting than the clothes. With that in mind, here are five things that happened during Paris Fashion Week that will stay in our minds for the next couple months to come.

01. CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS

One of our favorite styling moments this season was the shirt being tucked into the egg-print boxer-trousers at Jaquemus. We are not quite sure if this trend will catch on, but it was definitely a moment that will stay in our heads for a while.

02. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PAUL SMITH

The brand Paul Smith celebrates its 50th birthday this year. The company was founded way back in the 70s and the designer threw suitably celebratory show to ring in the next chapter. All the beautiful garments set aside, the show drew out the most incredible star-studded front row of this season. From Susan Sarandon, Ian McKellen, Jon Hamm, Anna Wintour, Mark Strong and so many more, they were all there, admiring the stunning collection. The man himself walked down the catwalk himself at the end of the show to roaring applause. It was very well deserved!!

03. TAKAHASHI’S THEATRE

Each season, Undercover designer Jun Takahashi takes a film, and uses it as a base as inspiration for his new collection. This year, it was Akira Kurosawa’s 10957 masterpiece, Throne of Blood, which transposes the tragedy of Macbeth from the 11th-century Scotland to samurai-soaked feudal Japan. As you might expect from the label, it was very theatrical, with arrows falling from the sky and three witches taking centre of the stage. When they came out, the clothes were equally cinematic, consisting of cargo pants tucked into heavy boots and leather jackets that look like samurai armour. A show that stood out this year, just as much as it did last year.

04. THE ACNE STUDIOS’ ROBOT

Acne Studios had a very interesting collection this season: it was designed with the help of Robbie Barrat, who is know as the 20-year-old artist who works with artificial intelligence. The young man has previously been noted for creating a robot that generated fake Kanye West lyrics, and this season he worked with the brand Acne Studios. He was feeding thousands of old Acne Studios’ looks into a generator with intentional mistakes, resulting in looks that did not actually exist, which the brand then used as an inspiration for their new collection.

05. THE REAL FAKE MOSS

Many fashion lovers where looking forward and where super excited to see what Guram Gvasalia, the fashion designer for Vetements, would do next, and if this show would continue Vetements’ reputation for absurdity. If you are a true fashion fanatic you probably remember last season’s fashion show of Vetements, when they showed their collection in a local McDonald’s.

Not surprisingly, Guram Gvasalia did not disappoint in terms of showmanship. He had models that looked very similar to super models and icons such as Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Angelina Jolie, and even Snoop D – O – double G. This was done by either really impressive prosthetics, or he really found all these people’s Doppelgägers. Regardless of how he got the models, this year’s vetements show was simply amazing.
